“Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a small beach town tucked between Fort Lauderdale and Pompano. At the east end of Commercial Boulevard, Anglin's Pier reaches about 876 feet into the Atlantic. The town's draw is the reef: a coral ridge that starts roughly a hundred yards off the sand, close enough that snorkelers walk in from the beach. The pier walks you straight out over it, with parrotfish and tarpon working below the boards.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is an incorporated beach town of roughly 6,500 residents, sitting between Fort Lauderdale to the south and Pompano Beach to the north. Anglin's Fishing Pier, built in 1963 by Melvin Anglin, anchors the east end of Commercial Boulevard at the town's main beach access. The pier is about 876 feet long and has been damaged and rebuilt several times after major hurricanes, most recently after the 2005 season. It remains privately operated and open daily for fishing and walking access.
The town markets itself as the Shore Diving Capital of South Florida, and the claim is grounded in geography. The first reef line of the three-tier South Florida reef tract begins as close as a hundred yards offshore, in water shallow enough to snorkel in from the beach. Common sightings include parrotfish, tarpon, sergeant majors, green sea turtles, and southern stingrays. Datura Avenue and El Mar Drive both put the reef within an easy walk-in entry from the sand.
Anglin's Pier operates as a private pier with paid access for fishing and walking, with rod rentals and bait sold from the pier shop at the entrance. Pier hours run from early morning through late evening, weather permitting. The pier sits at the east end of Commercial Boulevard, with metered parking along El Mar Drive and a paid municipal lot one block south. The town runs a free trolley between A1A and the beach during the high season.
